The museum is in a house located at Obispo street no. 113 between Mercaderes and Oficios (Trades) streets. The house belonged to silversmith Gregorio Tabares who lived the house since 1707. His own workshop was also there, making the property a place close related to Silversmith origins in Cuba.

After many property owners and diverse uses, in 1996 the house reopens to public as a Museum. Here you can admire a valuable collection of art and household items like jewelries, clocks, ashtrays, clerkships, coins, and accessories for the toilet, the dining room, the religious cult and many more...

In the exhibition, the XIX century pieces and the ones of the first quarter of the XX century are prevalent. Nevertheless, there are some objects elaborated in the XVIII century, which especially magnetize for its antiquity and beauty. Among of the most significant values of the house are its wide and varied mural paintings.

The Silversmith House is also headquarters of the Congregation of Silversmiths San Eloy, which groups together the current Cuban silversmiths.
