The “San Carlos and San Ambrosio” Seminary is located at San Ignacio Street no. 5, between Empedrado and Chacon Streets, in Old Havana.

The original building built by the Jesuits (who were ousted in 1767), was later translated. Initially it was named San Ambrosio Seminary and later San Carlos was added to the name to honor King Carlos III of Spain, who in year 1777, conceded the Conciliate title, to equal it to Spanish Seminaries.

The baroque style of its front gate was inspired on the same style of the "Catedral" church. The grand antique doorway, the patio, and the principal stairway are considered the most fastuous works of the colonial Havana. Keeping both sides of the entrance door are two statues of the most important teachers in the formation of the Cuban nationality: Jose Agustin Caballero and the Presbyter Felix Varela, both who lectured at the seminary.

Prominent personalities of Cuban nation were educated in the classrooms of this catholic college. Up today, the building is still a catholic college.
